Solutions to exercises and percentage problems
- The profit problem. It is very simple. In order for María to obtain a 25% profit on a product that cost her €180, she must do the following calculation:
125/ x = 100/180
x = 180 * 125/100 = €225
Maria will have to sell the coat in her store for €225 if she wants to earn 25% on her sale.
- I want a new computer. Although Raúl will be able to deduct that 21% in the quarterly when he issues his invoices with VAT, the total percentage that he will have to pay for the computer, including that 21%, can be calculated as follows:
100/1,200 = 121/ x
x = 1,200 * 121/100 = €1,452
- Even if I lose money, I have to sell it. If you want to find out how much money Rosa lost, it’s very simple. You just have to do the following calculation:
100/150 = 80/ x
X = 150 * 80/100 = €120
Maria has obtained €120 from the sale of the watch by losing 20%.
- Jesus and the sales. Jesus must have been very happy when he received that check at home. And we are also sure that before going to the store he checked how much the video game would cost him with the 8% discount. Do you want to know how he did it? Applying the following calculation:
100/95 = 92/ x
x = 95 * 92/100 = €87.4
- Green Week. Only 75% of the students will enjoy the beautiful Asturian landscapes and the beautiful town of Ribadesella. Do you know how we came to this conclusion? With the following calculation:
800/100 = 600/ x
x = 100 * 600/800 = 75%
- I finally have a car! In total, David has paid €8,140 for the car, so the business has turned out well for him. Do you want to know how to calculate it? This is one way to do it:
8,800/100 = x /7.5
x = 8,800 * 7.5/100 = €660 is the discount of 7.5%
8,800 – 660 = €8,140
