Concentrating to study can be a very complicated task for the average student, especially if you are at a difficult age, however, it is possible to learn to concentrate to study and pass.
As we increase the course and therefore, raising the level of academic demand of our studies. In primary studies, it used to be necessary to barely study to pass, but in university studies you have to study a lot to be able to pass and move on to the next course.
The bad thing is that there are more and more distractions in the world for students, see mobile phones, computers, friends, girlfriend… All of this means that in the end we do everything except study and that we end up leaving everything for the last day, with the corresponding suspense.
The bad thing about this is that it sounds very easy to say start studying and that you must do everything possible to achieve concentration, but concentrating before studying is not that easy and in the end we end up passing everything.
The good news is that I am finally going to give you the tips to concentrate to study, to get the best grades and to stop being lazy when it comes to studying.
What do you need to concentrate to study?
- Willpower.
- Notes and study books.
Instructions to concentrate to study
- No distractions: The first thing we must do to concentrate to study is to eliminate all the distractions we have, and when I said all I meant all, including your mobile. Tell your friends that you are going to study and tell them not to bother you, turn off your mobile phone, tell your family not to bother you in that period of time, turn off the computer and have only study-related materials on the table. Another very common mistake is to have little things like magazines, sudoku puzzles or even some marbles to play with. Just the notes and you should be there. If you entertain yourself with the pens and start drawing, don’t have pens and change the study method, the point is not to be distracted by anything.
- Parkinson’s Law: Parkinson‘s Law is a principle that has to do with the time we have to study and is the reason why you study on the last day. It specifically tells us that we usually extend the time we have available to finish a task, for example if we have 1 day to study we will study harder than if we have 7 days, studying very little those 7 days (or not studying 6 days and studying all day 7) because we feel we have a lot of time. The trick to fixing this is to pretend you have the test tomorrow and study as if you did. The pressure will make you study like an animal and optimize time like never before.
- Study in the way that best suits you: That you have to take notes, put colors, have everything in order, is not always true. It’s very simple, each person is different and therefore, some things work better for some and others better for others. Try to find what suits you best and discard what does not suit you, since it only wastes your time. If you don’t need diagrams, don’t do them, if you need to say it out loud, do it, if you need to study with relaxing music (without being distracted), do it, if you need to record it in audio and listen to it, do it. Do what works for you and you will optimize your time even better.
- Rests: The human brain, like the muscles, gets tired, therefore, it is necessary to give it a rest from time to time. The best way is to study in periods of 45 minutes of work and 15 minutes of rest, with a long break of several hours between several study days. For example, if you are going to study for 8 hours, you can study from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., rest for 4 hours and then from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. rest completely, without worrying during that time of studying and being able to turn on the mobile, watch videos… Thanks to this, you will be able to better manage time and make your mind restful.
Tips to concentrate to study
- Plan: Good planning is crucial, because if you don’t plan, the bull will catch you and you won’t be able to study enough because you don’t have time. Try to keep an eye on exam schedules and study early enough but not too much, since studying too early is wasting time because the mind forgets. The advance notice depends on the difficulty of the exam, which ranges from 2 or 3 days in advance for a simple partial exam to 1 in advance with an opposition exam, going through 1 month for a final exam and 2 months for a recovery of the whole book of a difficult subject.
