How To Make Bracelets

Making bracelets at home requires simple materials that can be purchased at any store such as embroidery threads, ribbons, mouse tail, leather, gold chains, beads, or beads. You can recycle some bracelets that you no longer use or necklaces and reuse those materials.

We will teach you how to make bracelets with various materials, then with your imagination you can create your own bracelets to give to your friends or to sell.

We will teach you how to make simple bracelets with a sliding knot closure, which will allow you to adjust them to the size of your wrist or anyone else’s.

You can practice with materials such as wool, threads, laces so as not to wear out the leather in case you make a mistake.

What do you need to make bracelets?

  • Strip or leather cord, embroidery threads, beads or accessories at ease.
  • Sewing needle and scissors
  • Round elastic

Instructions for making bracelets

  1. Simple knot bracelet: To make this bracelet you will only need 40 cm of cord or leather strap and the accessories you want to add. Thread the cord as many  as you want and separate them by simple knots so that they do not move. They must stay in the center. Do not put too many because the leather or lace should show off. You can give it a turn or more as in the model.
  2. Now we will make the closure, for this you must create a circumference approximately the size of your wrist, you will see that the threads are superimposed since the length of the thread is much longer than your wrist. Then fold one end of the thread back about 3cm. With this piece of thread we will make the first sliding knot. Hold the folded thread with your fingers to form a small eyelet, wrap it several times around the threads, and finally thread the end through the eyelet. Pull gently but firmly and tighten until the slipknot is formed. Try it by running it to both sides and if it turned out well, cut the excess. If you work with a leather strip, as in the photo, one turn will be enough for the knot since it is quite thick and it will look rough if you give it more than one, on the other hand, if you do it with waxed thread or cord you can give it more laps and it will be fine. Now you must do the same with the other end. Once you have the two slipknots you can adjust the bracelet or stretch it to take it off or put it on.
  3. Leather and thread bracelet: To make this bracelet you will need a 50cm long strip of leather or cord, embroidery threads (you can choose two or three colors that you like and that combine with each other), sewing needle and scissors.
  4. Start your bracelet leaving about 8 cm from the beginning and tie a tight knot in the first color of thread you will use. Start wrapping the thread around the leather at the same time you hide the end of the thread that was loose when you knotted it, this will make it look neat. In this way, it covers two or three centimeters and ends with another knot.  Then change color by doing the same: starting with a knot and wrapping the leather while covering the excess threads. Add the third color and finish by passing the excess thread in with a sewing needle. Remember that you should not cover the entire bracelet, but a part of the leather should be visible.
  5. You can also make some variations: use more colors by making stripes smaller or of different sizes, alternating stripes of thread with stripes of leather, that is, without covering it completely, placing silver beads at the beginning of the colors and at the end or any idea that occurs to you.
  6. Closure of the bracelet: make the same sliding knot closure explained above and you will have the adjustable bracelet to suit you.
  7. Bracelet with owls: Cut a round elastic according to the size of your wrist, if you double it it is better because it will be more resistant, then thread the beads and thematic accessories, which in this case are owls, close the elastic with a knot and that’s it!

Tips for making bracelets

  • The neatness in these manual works is very important, not only so that they look good but so that they do not fall apart.
  • Learn how to make thread bracelets by following this tip on how to make thread bracelets.
  • Take the approximate measurement of the person’s wrist for which you will make a bracelet so that it fits you well, although its length is variable, it would look bad if it is too big or too small.
  • If the bracelet is made of leather, remember that this material should show off, so the accessories or rolled embroidery threads that you put on it should not hide the base material too much.
