What Are The Seven Deadly Sins

The seven deadly sins are sins reflected in the biblical texts, which are intended to denounce human behavior that can seriously harm other people.

The seven deadly sins are well known in the western world, since practically everyone knows more or less what they are and what they should not be committed.

The bad thing is that surely you have committed or are committing one or several capital sins, which according to Christian culture could condemn you to eternal fire.

They should not be committed not only if you are religious, but also because by harming other people, this could bring consequences and bad feelings to you as well.

The bad news is that not everyone knows what the deadly sins are, since sometimes we can get confused or not remember the 7.

I am going to show you what they are.  So apart from knowing them, you can avoid committing them and achieve better peace and harmony with all the people around you.

Instructions

  1. Pride: First of all, we must talk about the first capital sin and one of the most committed in the world, that is, we must talk about pride. We define pride as the action of believing yourself more than another person for no apparent reason. A proud person is a cool, arrogant person who considers himself superior to others, like a kind of god. This is a capital sin since for Christianity, all men are equal and no one is above God. The way to combat this deadly sin is to be humble and down to earth.
  2. Lust: Secondly, we have to talk about another deadly sin, lust. This sin is constantly present in this society, because if you look at advertising, everything is hypersexualized. We define as lust, the excessive weakness to perform lascivious and sexual acts. A good example of lust are people who have orgies, people who have infidelities and people who resort to prostitution. Chastity is the remedy for this sin, which is the most socially accepted sin, since many people consider sexual repression retrograde.
  3. Greed: The following sin reflects the current mercantilist consumer society, that is, greed. Greed means always wanting more and more, that is, having no limit and no bottom. A greedy person is a person who is never content with what she has, as she always wants more and more. The remedy for this cardinal sin would be simplicity. As a curiosity, Christianity is not the only religion that condemns this capital sin, since other religions such as Buddhism are also against the excess of the material, advocating seeking happiness in small things and living without being surrounded by material things. This sin is also socially accepted, since many successful business people are greedy.
  4. Gluttony: This sin was not very common until a few years ago, since there was no excess food. The industrial revolution and the consumer society have caused what is called gluttony, that is, the sin of excess food. In today’s culture, it is taught that eating a lot is a pleasure, with plenty of buffets and fast food chains to eat until you burst. The bad thing is that while we have infinite food at low prices, other people suffer from trying to eat a little bread every day. The remedy for this sin is temperance, that is, knowing when we have to stop eating or even fast.
  5. Laziness: The sin of laziness is committed by many of us, being for example my favorite deadly sin, since I consider myself a somewhat lazy person. Someone lazy and lazy is a person who does not want to work, who likes the good life and hates hard work or if he can avoid doing it, he does not. Laziness is compensated by industriousness or work ethic, the downside is that lack of laziness should not be confused with greed (many lazy people only work for money, so they are committing greed).
  6. Envy: Envy is the national sport in Spain, since we all know someone who only buys what others buy and who only goes to places where others only want to go. Envy means wanting what belongs to others, which only hurts ourselves from the inside.  There are two types of envy, the first being healthy envy (wanting to compete fairly to surpass the rival) and secondly filthy or unhealthy envy (wanting to sabotage the rival to be above it without effort). I believe that healthy envy is not bad, as long as you respect the rules. Envy is fought with charity, that is, giving to people without asking for anything in return.
  7. Anger: Finally we have the sin of anger, a sin that makes you be aggressive with many people. Anger leads to more suffering and suffering is a path to the dark side. Reason was not lacking, since anger usually consumes a person since it distances him from his loved ones and always makes him hate everything that surrounds him. The way to combat anger is to have a lot of patience, something that unfortunately many people in our country lack. Of course, it is not the same to have patience than to be a person who lets himself be trampled by everyone.
