What Is Bullying – Definition, Meaning And Concept

Bullying is one of the main problems that students can suffer in their educational centers, although it can also occur in other areas such as work, home or leisure. Therefore, it is also popularly known as bullying. One of the main reasons why this scourge can occur, as we will see below, is the continuous globalization that is taking place worldwide. More and more we have to live with people of different races or ethnicities and that, on some occasions, is not easy. Some feel emotionally and physically superior and therefore decide to bully other people. Governments already allocate a budget item exclusively to combat this setback that children may suffer.

What is bullying?

Bullying is the action of physically or psychologically mistreating another person with the main objective of imparting fear or subjecting them to cruel practices. The reasons for which bullying can be carried out can be diverse. Some are the discrimination to which some types of people are subjected due to their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, physical type or hobbies. In other cases, some psychologists point to the anger or lack of affection that stalkers may suffer from their family nucleus. In some cases, the circumstance may occur that when parents mistreat their children or they do not receive the proper education, they pay for the anger they carry inside through bullying. The types of bullying can also be very varied. However, in general terms, physical abuse is more typical of children who take advantage of their muscular strength to carry out this type of action. On the other hand, bullying of the psychological type is much more normal among girls. Insults, making a vacuum and these types of actions are more common among females.

Unfortunately for many, bullying is not usually a flash in the pan, but rather a series of actions that are repeated continuously. The origin is difficult to identify, although those people who suffer from diseases such as acetone have more numbers. In boys it can be much more random, while in girls there is usually some reason of origin, and in many cases it can be related to adolescent relationships and boyfriends. The feelings of anger when a friend can reach you that boy you like can be very high. You usually pay for that with her spreading rumors that are false to produce psychological harassment or empty her so that she feels the more alone the better. It is difficult to find a bullying situation that is produced by a single person, but in most cases it is usually supported by the force of the group. Let’s not forget that one of the objectives is to find that feeling of inferiority and feeling alone that undermines your self-esteem and makes you feel worthless. This situation is affecting her head and is becoming a constant loss of confidence that can clearly affect her school performance. It is very important to detect it in time because otherwise the consequences can be very bad, even leading to the possibility of suicide. For this reason, parents must develop an open behavior with their children to be able to talk about anything and that he or she can have enough confidence to tell them about a problem of these characteristics, and that it can be very embarrassing to talk about it. Schools must also be aware in order to eradicate it.

The consequences that bullying can leave are also usually really high. To begin with, the person who is assaulted may lose the possibility of relating and having a relationship. They stop being empathic, and in that sense, it is something that should be worked with a specialist. Also do not forget that in other cases, those who have suffered bullying become aggressors of anger that can reach inside. This circumstance occurs in a large number of situations throughout life. Something very frequent is that a person who has suffered white slavery can become a sexual exploiter given the enormous economic return that has been detected. The same thing happens with bullying. As we have said, the lack of affection can be paid for with bullying.

A harassed or harassed person is in this situation and other people, who may show any kind of sign of weakness, may be the perfect candidate to pay the piper. To avoid this type of situation, these people must receive psychological treatment to prevent them from going to the other side of the sidewalk and continue fighting this problem. Schools must also take appropriate measures to combat this problem before it is too late. Their image and popularity in the public can be ruined by not detecting cases of bullying, which in many cases go to the press, especially if they can have a tragic ending. In this sense, different measures can be adopted to combat it that we will know in detail later.

Advantages of fighting bullying

All in all, fighting bullying should be a complete obligation for the whole of society and usually presents numerous benefits and advantages not only for those who put it into practice, but also for the entire population. Therefore, adopting plans against bullying is very beneficial. The most prominent are the following:

  • Improve coexistence. In a school, academic performance is the company’s best cover letter. Preventing bullying will allow students to go to class happier and, in this sense, get better grades that will also benefit the center itself.
  • Educate society. Bullying can be the first step in criminality. Educating people from a very young age about the values of citizenship and coexistence can prevent them from becoming criminals, and therefore, a problem that can become international since it can scare away tourists during vacation periods.
  • Reduce spending. A priori it may seem that allocating a budget item to combat bullying is an unnecessary expense, but in the end the return on investment is enormous. As we have previously commented, this education will allow us to reduce spending on crime and on the maintenance of inmates in jails. Therefore, it is worth spending the money.
  • Attract immigration. The living environment that can be had in our country will be the main thermometer that will attract people to live, obviously in addition to living conditions, the possibility of finding work. Thus, if the image that is projected is good, starting with schools, people will come.

How to fight bullying?

Schools are the main supporters of combating bullying. Except for public centers, any private works exactly like any company. He needs students to enroll if he doesn’t want to see how his business can go under. For this reason, the centers work hard on the design of prevention measures in situations that may be related to bullying. Currently there are numerous measures that can be taken. To start with parents who should be able to detect if there is bullying. They must be able to establish a bond of trust that allows the child to have enough confidence to warn of danger, before it may be too late. For this reason, it would be good if parents could know in which environments their boy or girl is related, and even be able to know their friends and the companies they frequent.  This feeling of trust requires the right environment.

For example, if we find some type of scratch that could lead us to think that they have been attacked, let’s find a private moment to talk about it. Don’t try to solve the problem with the same coin. Many parents try to prevent their child from being attacked based on violence against other children. Get in touch with the school so that they are aware that bullying occurs in their classrooms and, in this sense, they can act accordingly and try to eradicate it at the root. Schools must establish surveillance protocols to try to prevent bullying and discrimination from becoming commonplace in their day-to-day lives.

At all times, the child must feel supported by us. Giving him support will make him stronger. The worst thing for our son or daughter is feeling alone, and if this situation occurs, the bully’s triumph will be total. You must work together with the school, and be aware of the type of actions that the educational institution may be carrying out. If necessary, you can also request a visit from a specialist to try to wash away the psychological scars that this type of situation may have left.

Obviously, you have to take great care of the diet you are following. Depression is one of the main causes that they may have for not eating. Establish a deadline for the educational center and request a report on the results achieved. In the event that you do not consider them satisfactory and that the situation may continue to occur, nip it in the bud and change your child to another school to prevent further damage. Also try to maintain discretion at all times. Do not discuss it except with very trustworthy people, as it could have a collateral effect. There are many people who love gossip and telling someone about the situation can end up knowing the whole neighborhood, or town if we live in a small town.

Children themselves can also develop skills to combat bullying, or at least get it to affect them less. To begin with, bullying actions are successful if they have consequences for us.  For example, if we ignore what we have been told or show a better smile as a sign that we are not affected, the bully will lose his purpose.

In case of physical aggression, it may be worth going to martial arts or self defense classes to be able to prevent it and know how to act in case it occurs. Let’s also try to find a group of friends in which to take refuge. For example, if we go to tell the teachers what is happening, we can end up like informers. On the other hand, if it is a group of friends that gives voice to the situation, bullying can completely end. Bullying is a scourge in which detection, effective action and especially prevention are essential. Following the correct deadlines can mark a before and after in the student’s behavior, and especially, in their academic performance at school.
