That its direct translation from Spanish is Online Multiplayer Games of Arena Battles. This genre of video games has grown exponentially in popularity over the last few decades. What started as a simple map mod in StarCraft has now become a genre and a mainstay for esports.
You may have also heard the word MOBA from games such as League of Legends (LoL) or Dota. Since these are the main references of this genre worldwide, the first being recognized as one of the bases of e-Sports, together with Counter Strike.
However, you may be wondering… How do you play a MOBA? How are the teams made up? And above all, what game should I start with in this online genre? If you want to know the answer to each of these questions, stay until the end, because here you will find them all.
How do you play a MOBA?
In order to understand how to play a moba, it is crucial to understand how the map is made up. In essence it can be defined by 5 base elements, which are:
- The top lane (or TOP).
- The jungle.
- The Middle Lane (or MID).
- The base or nexus (Both rival and your team).
- The bottom lane, (or BOT).
Understanding how the map is composed, we must know that each lane has a line of 3 towers. Which must be protected by your team, but destroyed by the contrary. Since the intention and definition of the winner occurs when the rival nexus is destroyed, it is essential to finish off these towers first.
As for the jungle, in it you can usually find a series of hostile mobs which, when defeated, give the character experience and money. This is known as farming, farming is important to obtain better items during the game and thus improve the abilities of your PC.
Now that you know how the map is made up and that your objective is to destroy the opponent’s towers, to reach their nexus and win. The next thing you should know is how the team is made up, since each player will have a role to assume, in order to succeed efficiently.
What are the roles in the team?
Each team will be made up of 5 players, which means that there are a total of 5 roles to choose from. These roles are the following:
- The Tank or Warrior.
- Jungle, aka Assassin.
- The magician.
- I support her.
- The ADC or shooter.
Those are the 5 roles that players can assume and obviously each role has its own function.
Functions of each role.
- The role of the tank is, as its name suggests, to be the player who has the character that can receive the most enemy damage. His role is to protect his allies, so that they can finish off the enemy.
- The jungler is the one who clears the jungle off the map, the jungler is usually weak on his own, but after farming enough, he can become an unstoppable killer beast. It is generally the most popular and important role because of the jungler’s ability to carry a game.
- His role is limited to protecting the midline (the shortest on the map) and helping his teammates due to his position, since he has greater mobility.
- Not much to say, the support should be in charge of helping the ADC in the bot lane, since the ADC itself is weak and easy to take down. The support must support him until he is able to easily kill his rivals.
- The marksman is the force that defends the bottom lane, as support characters generally don’t do much damage, which means that the ADC and SUP must always work as a team.
What MOBA to start with?
There is not much to say at this point, because the best MOBA to start playing does not exist. They all have their guides and help to get into their game, however on their own recommendation.
