What Is Administration – Definition, Meaning Plus The Concept

The concept of administration is included within the Social Sciences and is defined as a technique that is in charge of planning, directing, controlling and organizing the resources of a company, organization or administration.

Its objective is to seek the greatest possible benefit, at a social or economic level, depending on the goals sought by the organization.

Through the administration we plan, control and direct the resources and work activities in order to achieve the objectives that we propose. All this seeking the greatest efficiency and effectiveness.

Public sense

Despite the fact that the concept is usually associated with companies or organizations.  This concept can be used to name a public authority, such as the Government of a territory.

The Public Administration of the State, region or Autonomous Community encompasses the set of agencies (Ministries, General Secretariats, Ministries…) that are in charge of applying the laws and directives essential for regulatory and legislative compliance.

Within this machinery of the Public Administration are also included public officials, who are the link between citizens and political power.

Parts of the administration

Planning: consists of choosing and setting missions and objectives of the organization that we are managing. After determining the policies, projects, programs, procedures, methods, budgets… That is, planning in advance what you want to achieve in the future and how we are going to achieve it.

-Organization: it consists of planning what tasks we are going to do and how we are going to distribute them and determine the functions of each one of the team members.

-Direction: is the fact of influencing team members to make their contribution to achieve the proposed goals. It has to do with the human resources aspect of administration.

-Control: consists of measuring and correcting individual work and at the organizational level to ensure that we achieve the desired objectives. It involves measuring performance based on goals and plans, detecting deviations from regulations and being able to correct them.

-Use of resources: refers to the use of the resources that we have within our organization: human, economic, material…

-Activities: set of tasks or operations that are carried out within the organization and that are essential for the achievement of our goals.

-Objectives or goals: in any management process, the aforementioned is done based on the fulfillment of certain objectives or goals.

-Efficiency and effectiveness: this is the other main essence of good administration.  The fulfillment of objectives and goals with the use of the minimum amount of resources but that this does not imply a decrease in quality.

Types of administration

Within the Administration of an organization you can find different types, or subtypes, which are essential to achieve our objectives:
