When you start as a hobby or want to take the hobby as something more serious and take quality photographs, you have to know basic things such as knowing how to take pictures, framing the images, knowing what the correct distances are, time also has a lot of influence, etc.
Despite what many people may think, shooting a camera or a mobile phone (with those cameras that have nothing to envy to cameras in many cases), it is not just a matter of the camera or the device. You can buy the most expensive camera on the market and take some disastrous photographs, without quality or without “chicha”. The device is that. Just a help or the machine with which you work. But make no mistake, what really matters is the person who takes the pictures.
Also, although it is fine and you should know all the tricks and basics of photography, it is also equally true that you have to let each one find their style. You have to be, above all, creative. There is nothing worse than starting to repeat yourself with the photographs and falling into monotony.
Instructions
- One of the basic things that you will learn if you sign up for photography classes or if you want to take taking photos more seriously, will be the rule of thirds.
- What is or what is the rule of thirds about?
- What is or what is the rule of thirds about? When taking photographs, the composition of the images must be taken into account so that the person and/or object have a correct position and the image does not come out strange, moved, or framed in a strange way.
- And be careful, because, although it is very good and it is better to know what the law of thirds is and how to do it, it is also true that it is neither essential nor necessary. When taking a photograph, the really important thing is the capture. What you want to transmit.
- Not only is the law of thirds important for taking photos, in video, it is just as important as well.
- Think when you take a photograph or want to take it. When you want to take the photo you will be using the camera looking at the subject (person, thing or object) but you will focus and you will have your doubts… more to the left, up, down, right… with more depth, less, take more space, not to do it, etc.
- Talking about the rule of thirds is doing it about the compositions in the photographs that you are going to take. Be careful, you have to take into account, in an imaginary way, what the downtown area would be. From looking at that, you have to also look at the other lines (always imaginary) that will be the ones that would divide the photography into parts or zones. They always have to be divided into six parts. There are three zones in the upper area and another three, below. Always up and down and right and left. Come on, which, in an imaginary way, would be like a square.
- From knowing this, we go to more technical words. What would it be like to talk about strengths? When this is said, it refers to the lines that are formed until reaching the intersection.
- Just as it is used to imaginarily calculate the points above, below, right and left. They also serve to take good photos in vertical and horizontal positions. If you take, for example, photos that are in a horizontal position, having the idea of the composition with thirds will be very useful and you will take incredible photographs.
- When you start to control the photography you will realize that it is not the same that a single subject appears, than several things. For example, taking a photo of a family member or friend is not the same as taking a photo of a group of people or a couple. Or a landscape, or a car, etc.
- If you are going to take a photo and it turns out that they have to be two people or several objects, the trick is really to situate it and capture it thinking about the ruler and when you take the photo, think about the lines, but never straight lines, always They go diagonally. Because that way, you will emphasize those people or what you really want to transmit or capture. If you capture everything, at the moment of truth, when you look at the photo, you will not really pay attention to what you want to convey. Otherwise, your eyes will go a little “to everything”.
- In general, whenever you use the law of thirds, it is done when you want to capture images of landscapes, nature, flowers, the beach, etc. In other cases, photographers also use it to highlight very specific things and highlight them, and for this reason, they do it with portraits. With this, you will get your eyes to go only to what you really want: the face.
- Just as it is extremely helpful for those of you who are more lost or who want more concrete and perfect photographs, there are also cases where it is not recommended so much. When is it not recommended? When you have already tried it, you are more fluent and you know what you are looking for and what not, or you want to practice and be fluent and creative, you should not pay attention to this rule.
- If you have never heard the rule of thirds, perhaps it is more likely than if you have heard the golden section. What does it mean? Well, neither more nor less, than to say that it is the same. Because really, it is. It is done and the same steps in the photographs are taken into account to make them. But this is no longer used only to capture moments and capture them in images… it has also been used hundreds of years ago for art such as painting. If we are more technical, this will happen for photography professionals, we go further and we are already talking about the gold number. Or golden number. Not everyone knows what it is, because we say it is much more technical.
- It doesn’t matter what you take the photos with… in fact, we repeat what we mentioned at the beginning… there are no good or bad cameras (well, there are professional cameras and lenses that will make your job easier and some beautiful photos) but the camera does not the job. The work, you do it. It doesn’t matter with what. You can take the photos with your mobile phone and be impressive.
- If you don’t know very well how to do the rule of thirds or you’re too lazy to know how to position the camera, the lens or the dimensions… there are many cameras, both SLR and screen, that already include thirds in their options. By looking, you can already know how it is and how to apply them and see or imagine what the perspectives would be like. How can the image be specified so that the people who look at the photograph will be seen towards that specific point? It is important to keep the key points in mind. To do this, when you capture, look at points that attract a lot of attention. For example, you think that you are looking at a photo and your eyes go to a specific point. where would you really want to look? We give you options… if it is a person who is walking, keep in mind that they should follow the path and start walking… do not do it by cutting the image by a corner or one side because it would look strange or bad. If you leave a space, the view will go to the obvious. That person should keep walking.
- It is always better to know how to take photographs correctly than to have to resort to photographic programs to rectify them or give them a twist and make them look like something else.
- When taking a capture with the camera or with the mobile phone, depending on how the framing is done, it can give a twist to the image. It can become a typical, flat, simple, common photo… even if thirds are used or be extravagant, fun, creative, different… if you use your imagination and don’t abide by the established rules.
- If you take a photograph and cut off, for example, the feet, the arms, the head… or you decide that you are taking a photo of someone or something, but instead of focusing mainly on him/her, you want to take space out of the sky. If you do it and your eyes go there, you will be giving importance to the sky (landscape). On the contrary, you would be giving importance to the mountains or any other point. Eye. If you don’t mind, that’s fine. But if you only want to give importance to that specific X thing, you will have to take care of the details or make a bokeh effect.
What do you need:
- An SLR camera or a camera with a screen…
- A mobile phone with a camera.
- Have some skill to take pictures or do them with taste or creativity.
- Read books, manuals and photography tricks.
Tips
Whenever you take photographs and more, if you have it as a hobby or you love to try it out, be creative, practice and try… don’t close yourself off to the probability or the simple fact of only taking photos with the rule of thirds. It’s great to know, do and practice. Try what you think, because in the end, you will get good catches. But nothing is better than yourself.
Try, think, take what you see through the viewfinder of your camera or mobile phone and try to capture what you see or what is enchanting. A good photographer or a good photo does not have to be technical. On the contrary… it has to have a “something”. Life, movement, feeling… It is important that even if your attempt at photography is just for hobby, you do it well. Even if they are photographs that you like and/or fancy, it is always better to use books or manuals to find out what the best tricks are, take photos with the best light (sunrise or sunset), day, night, with people, a person, a portrait, animals, doing sports, landscapes, nature… it seems simple but those who take photos know that this is not the case.
